How-to Look Great in Photographs

Remember those great times with a photo you can be proud of
Whether they be family photos or party pictures, cameras are guaranteed to emerge. If you're like me, you leave the house liking the reflextion in the mirror, only to later see the night's photos and think "did I really look like that?" Here are some easy tips to always look great in photographs, no matter what the season or occassion!
Lighting
Lights can create shadows on your face when it's above you - especially under the eyes, the most undesirable place for shadows. Try to stand behind the light or sun, and away from overhead lights. Also, tilt your chin upwards slightly to minimize any potential shadows.
Stand Tall
Stand up straight and turn slightly to the side so one shoulder is closer to the camera. Look towards the lens and you'll instantly look longer and leaner.
Chin Up
If the camera is below your eye level it will give you the dreaded double-chin. Keep the lens at your eye level or higher and slightly stick your chin out a bit more than you naturally would.
Avoid The Beauty Pageant Look
Keep your smily natural and relaxed. Try to grin without showing too much gum or teeth. If you have a big photo coming up, try practicing in a mirror until you achieve a smile you feel most confident with.
Teeth Whitener
If you don't have time for weeks for whitestrips, or expensive dentist appointments, apply a blue-tinted lipgloss (in a red or pink) to boost your smile. It will also give your lips a fuller, and more desirable appearance.
Avoid Shine
If you have any shine on your face at all, the camera's flash will enhance it. Remember to keep your complexion matte by applying powder before the photo is taken, or by applying a makeup primer underneath your foundation.
Open Your Eyes
Widen your eyes in pictures and make them look larger by blending darker eyeshadows in the crease of your eyelid, and lighter, shimmery ones on your brow bone. Always remember to curl your lashes and swipe on an extra coat of mascara for a "big eye" appearance.
With these tips you're now ready to take on any camera lens that will be aimed your way.
